True Freedom

Happy Birthday, America!

Today is another milestone in the history
of this great nation. Great because our
country’s history is deeply rooted in the
battle for freedom. Freedom of religion.
Freedom of speech. Freedom to live and
move without the fear of terror or bondage.

Freedom from the dictates of governments gone astray.

We want freedom, yet often take for granted the price it cost others. War upon war and
thousands upon thousands of lives lost, birthed the nation we call the United States of America.
The war cry and words of Patrick Henry—“Give me liberty or give me death”—still echoes in the
hearts of those who believe in one nation under God.

There’s another freedom easily taken for granted. The freedom of soul and spirit made possible
by the Son of God who invaded this earth over 2,000 years ago. Born of a virgin, Jesus came to
earth to proclaim what true freedom is. Freedom of soul and spirit.

His message was —For God so loved.
His message was —
Repent for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand.
His message was —*You must be born again to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jesus carried that message all the way to a cruel cross where He laid down His life for you and me.

Born on the 4th of July, I am grateful for the privilege of celebrating my birthday on the same day
America celebrates hers. I was born again in my late twenty’s. For over forty years, I’ve celebrated
the day Jesus invaded my life—not by force—by invitation. When I invited Him into my heart,
He moved in and took up residence in my heart and soul through His Spirit. Jesus is the the source
of true freedom;*”for in Him we live and move and have our being”.

Today as I remember those who laid down their lives for America, I also remember the One who laid
down His life for me and for you. The One who promised, *You shall know the truth and the
truth shall set you free”,  has set me free.

Now that’s true freedom!
