I stepped to the balcony and fastened my eyes on the rolling, crashing waves, along the shoreline at Gulf Shores in sweet home Alabama. I couldn’t stop the tears. This place holds so many memories.
Dave and I were here to celebrate 49 years of marriage. We felt like teenagers as walked the shoreline, dodging and darting wave after rolling wave of the ocean. It wasn’t long before we stepped in, wetting and washing our feet with the invigorating tide of surprisingly warm and salty foaming water.
The best foot wash ever. Ah this felt so good!
Later we gathered seashells…each one different in shape, size, texture and color. We would give these keepsakes to our grandchildren God has so richly blessed us with.
Not wanting to leave Oceanside we sat awhile, reminiscing and remembering. Gratefully counting our blessings—thankful for the warm embrace of our Father’s faithful love throughout the years and seasons of our lives.
Our Father’s Faithful Love.
He has been the third cord strand that held us together through the sometimes-stormy trials of marriage. His grip of love and grace anchored our souls when ebbing tides of life threatened our grip on Him—and each other.
Like wave upon wave of vast ocean, sky, and sea….God’s love just keeps coming towards us. You just can’t stop it…nor would you want to.
How do you celebrate the milestones God has brought you through?
For me, it takes a special song. The one that came to my heart this morning.
“Oh The Deep Deep Love of Jesus”, written by the London merchant Samuel Trevor Francis (1834-1925).
